Study Framework Guide

Why the Cornell Note-Taking System Works

Developed in the 1950s by Dr. Walter Pauk, director of the Reading-Study Center at Cornell University, the Cornell method is scientifically proven to boost long-term retention. By splitting your paper into Cues (30%), Notes (70%), and Summary, it forces the brain through the 5 R’s of Learning: Record, Reduce, Recite, Reflect, and Review.

How to Use Active Recall Mode

Passive re-reading of lecture notes produces an illusion of competence. In contrast, Active Recall forces your brain to retrieve knowledge from memory. Activate the Active Recall button in the header: your notes will be covered, forcing you to look at each cue question on the left and retrieve the answer in your head before clicking reveal.

100% Privacy & Zero Cloud Dependency

All notes, notebooks, and summaries created in Cornell Note-Taking Studio reside exclusively on your local computer. NotesVista transmits zero data to external servers. Use the Export JSON button anytime to create permanent offline backups or move your notes across devices.
