Personal Kanban: Stop Starting, Start Finishing
Originating in the Toyota Production System and formalized for knowledge workers by Jim Benson and Tonianne DeMaria Barry, Personal Kanban relies on two core principles: 1. Visualize your work and 2. Limit Work-In-Progress (WIP). Human brains can only juggle 1 to 3 active cognitive contexts before task-switching overhead causes severe errors and mental exhaustion.
Why WIP Limits Work
When your "In Progress" column has more than 3 cards, the board alerts you to finish existing cards before pulling new ones from the backlog. This banishes the anxiety of half-finished projects.
Pull Over Push
Instead of letting tasks push themselves onto your schedule as emergency fires, you maintain an ordered Backlog and deliberately pull items into "To Do" and "In Progress" only when you have bandwidth.
100% Private & In-Browser
All cards, checklists, and column states are retained on your computer via local browser storage. You can export the board to a `.json` backup file or copy it directly into a clean Markdown table anytime.
